Maryland's Wild Turkeys
Wild turkeys were once on the brink of extinction in Maryland, but they have made a remarkable comeback in the last half century - a true conservation success story. Learn about the history and biology of turkeys, what kind of habitats they need to thrive, and research efforts currently underway in Maryland to better understand these unique and majestic birds.
Bob Long has been the Maryland Department of Natural Resource's Wild Turkey and Upland Game Bird Project Manager for over 20 years. He coordinates statewide research, monitoring, and habitat management efforts for wild turkeys, northern bobwhite, and ruffed grouse. He received a B.S. from Virginia Tech and an M.S. from West Virginia University, both in Wildlife Science. He lives in Dorchester County and spends most of his free time enjoying a variety of outdoor pursuits.
