Phenology: Nature's Clock
Interested in getting outside and observing nature? Concerned about the impacts that climate change is having on the plants and animals all around us? Phenology is the practice of observing the different lifecycles of plants from bud burst and leaf emergence to flowering and seeds. On this walk, we will observe the plants that make up a phenology trail at Irvine and compare observations to long-term changes seen around the region. Our warming world is causing rapid changes, and that is changing the plant species that call Maryland home. You take home the skills to make observations in your own yard and, if you wish, contribute to citizen science data.
Wear good, preferably waterproof shoes or boots, as conditions may be wet. (This is mud season!)
