Many insect species provide the critical ecosystem service of pollination, a service vital to flowering plants and all life on earth. But did you know that many pollinators lead a double life sometimes as maniacal predators wreaking havoc on pests in your garden and landscape. Others are pests of plants. Come explore the fascinating world of pollinators and learn who is who in this world of dual identities.
Michael Raupp is Professor Emeritus at the University of Maryland. His degrees include a BS and MS from Rutgers University and a PH.D. from University of Maryland, College Park. He has received more than a dozen awards for writing, scholarship, and scientific outreach. Mike is a regular expert guest on television and radio and has appeared on all major television networks in this country and several abroad with media luminaries including Charlie Gibson, Diane Sawyer, Robin Roberts, Hoda Kotb, and Jay Leno. Mike has been featured on National Geographic, Science Channel, Lehrer News Hour, PBS and was a consultant for the FOX television series Bones. He is a regular guest on the Weather Channel. His “Bug of the Week” website, www.bugoftheweek.com and YouTube channel www.youtube.com/user/BugOfTheWeek reach tens of thousands of viewers weekly in more than 200 countries around the world. His most recent book “26 Things that Bug Me” introduces youngsters to the wonders of insects and natural history while “Managing Insect and Mites on Woody Landscape Plants” published by TCIA is a standard for the arboricultural industry
