Primitive Cooking with Jeff Gottlieb
An exciting, one-time event to learn outdoor and primitive skills. Irvine welcomes expert guest instructor from the Smoky Mountains, Jeff Gottlieb.
Learn different primitive cooking techniques from flat rock cooking to woven grill and soapstone pots. Cook wild harvested duck, squash and sunchokes from Irvine’s 3 sisters garden, fruit, nuts, greens, and homemade drinks. Forage for greens that will be used in the drinks. Celebrate the autumn season with this unique opportunity to try a gourmet meal cooked over an open fire. Discover primitive skills, explore nature, and connect with others, at this one-of-a-kind encounter!
Instructor: Jeff Gottlieb, MS, based in the Smoky mountains of North Carolina has been an interpretive naturalist since 1980, and has specialized in primitive skills for over 30 years. He has built full-sized wigwams and longhouses at many interpretive sites, including Irvine, and replicates primitive tools and artifacts for display. He has written 3 books on primitive skills and teaches at primitive skills gatherings around the country.
