Birds of Irvine Nature Center, a Baltimore Area ‘Hotspot’
Birds are wonderful creatures that reveal to us the true value of our conversation efforts. Their presence can indicate the health of other wildlife communities and entertain us for hours. The various habitat types at Irvine Nature Center present everything birds need to survive throughout the year. When we plan for their needs we are rewarded with the pleasure of their company. Come learn about the almost 200 species which dwell within or migrate through Irvine’s forests, meadows, and wetlands each year, from a local expert who has found and documented nearly all of them.
Keith Eric Costley is the newest member of Irvine’s Education Team, having joined the staff as a naturalist in September. He is also a Baltimore native who has been birding central Maryland for over twenty-five years. Keith is an experienced field trip guide and has led many walks for the National Park Service and Patterson Park Audubon / National Audubon Society. As an avid eBird user and supporter, Keith has a passion for sharing wildlife sightings and is an enthusiastic contributor to iNaturalist, the Maryland Biodiversity Project, and The Macaulay Library. He is currently involved in the Maryland & DC Breeding Bird Atlas 3 Project and thoroughly enjoying running Irvine programs for both children and adults.
