Make & Take: Woven Cattail Tote Bag

Learn to weave with one of nature’s amazing natural, strong yet flexible materials.  Native peoples in the Americas and around the world have used this versatile plant for everything from mats to baskets and cordage. This plant has been used insulate houses-- and, food was made from the roots, shoots and pollen.

In this class, we will make a strong and useful tote bag (approximately 12"x8”) by doubling the cattails spokes thickness while learning different techniques -- from under/over weaving, twining and twilling and finishing.  Cattail is soft on the hands compared to many weaving materials/techniques but does require some hand dexterity when manipulating.

Herbal teas will be available but please bring a lunch/snack, as there will be a 30 minute break in the class to eat.

For Adults and Teens - please register early, event will be canceled if minimum registrations are not met.
