FOCUS: FEEDER FEAST
Half a year removed from those ‘dog days’ of summer, it’ the harshest time in nature’s calendar. Berries and nuts from the previous year are mostly depleted, and nights are long and bitter cold. Our brave winter bird residents could really use a handout to push through ‘til spring arrives. Join an Irvine naturalist to observe, up close, the hardy feathered friends who frequent our bird feeding stations. Help collect data for a continent-wide citizen science project that tracks when and where winter birds are feeding and look for a few of the ‘irruptive’ species that have trekked down from Canada this winter.
