STEAM Camp: Thursday Only - August 27th

Ages 9 to 12

 

Join Irvine for a bonus 11th week of Summer Camp before returning to the school year! This week’s focus will be sustainable energy, nature-inspired engineering, and environmental sciences! Choose a day based off the theme or sign up for the whole week. No matter which day your camper attends, they will be sure to have a blast!

9:00AM – 4:00PM Thursday, August 27th 
Before & Aftercare available 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM (for an additional charge) 

Cost: $120.00 per day

Daily Camp Themes: 

Monday, August 24th – Solar Energy

This camp revolves around the sun and the amazing energy that can be used as electricity for us and helps plants make their food. We will shine light on the process of photosynthesis and discover how we can harness the heat of the sun to prepare some classic camp treats.

Tuesday, August 25th – Wind Energy

Campers will be blown away when they discover the process behind wind turbines and how we can harness the wind in other ways. We will set sail at our wetlands with model boats of our own design and soar to new heights with kites!

Wednesday, August 26th – Hydropower

We will flow through the history of humans harnessing the power of water from water wheels to hydro-electric dams and tidal power plants. Campers will explore firsthand how a dam works and work in teams to create their own.

Thursday, August 27th – Soil Science

This camp digs deep into the science behind soil. From soil composition to creating Berlese funnels to discover how “alive” our soil is, campers will walk away with a better understanding of the dirt beneath their feet and how we can help keep it healthy. 

August, Friday 28th – Biomimicry

Slime molds, Humpback whales and bur seeds…what do these all have in common? They have all inspired human engineering and innovation. Campers will discover the connections between the natural world & technology. Out on the trails we will look for inspiration for our own projects to design and build.

 

There will be two age groups in this camp-one group of 5 to 8 years old and one group of 9 to 12 years old.

Registration will be capped at 20 for each group.

Cancellation Policy
Irvine reserves the right to cancel any event due to insufficient enrollment or extreme weather. If Irvine cancels an event, all registrants will be notified via the email they registered with, and all registration fees will be fully refunded.

Full payment is required at time of registration.

If you withdraw your child from camp for personal reasons, membership fees are nonrefundable and camp fees are refunded as follows:

21 or more days before camp: 50% of camp fee refunded

20-14 days before camp: 25% of camp fee refunded

13-0 days before camp: No Refund
