Learn how injured hawks, falcons, owls and other native wildlife are rescued, treated and returned to the wild, while hearing unforgettable stories from nearly three decades of caring for Maryland’s birds of prey. Enjoy an evening of fascinating wildlife, inspiring conservation stories, and great company. \n \n \n Speaker Bio: Kathleen Woods is the Executive Director of Phoenix Wildlife Center, a non-profit 501(c)3 dedicated to the rehabilitation and return to the wild of native birds, mammals, and reptiles. We are 100% community supported!! Upon retirement from Johns Hopkins Hospital, Kathy continued her passion of rehabilitating Maryland’s wildlife from part-time to full time and has held state and federal permits to rehabilitate wildlife for 28 years from bats to raptors. She holds a Bald Eagle permit to rehab the nation’s bird and a rabies vector species permit allowing her to rehab skunks, foxes, raccoons, and bats. Kathy serves as the President of Maryland Wildlife Rehabilitators Association to educate and support rehabilitators across the state. In addition to rehab, Kathy is one of two rehabilitators in North America who participated in a first of its kind research led by Powdermill Nature Reserve (Carnegie Museum of Natural History) to study migration success of birds after colliding with glass. Six at risk species rescued by Lights Out Baltimore were rehabilitated, banded, and tagged with a transmitter by Phoenix Wildlife Center and tracked through Motus Wildlife Tracking towers, one of which is installed on the center’s roof. We are currently taking care of the fallen/orphaned black crowned night heron population in Fells Point. Although each animal that passes through the center’s door is important, she enjoys the most caring for foxes, Barred Owls, and songbirds; then releasing them back to the wild. \n \n \n Member Cost: $58.00 per registrant \n \n \n Non-Member Cost: $68.00 per registrant \n \n \n This event will include a buffet style dinner by Ace Catering and signature alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails by the French Paradox.
